The Beginnings

"The Challenge"

"A test of one's abilities or resources in a demanding but stimulating undertaking..."

How it all began...

Performance Bikes magazine has an internet forum and it was on the forum just before Christmas 2012 that Kevin Wilson first suggested the idea of a charity motorbike run, on ridiculously cheap machines, from John o'Groats to Lands End.

Kevin's initial suggestion was met with excitement and within days it had become "The Longest Day Down Challenge"

What was the Challenge?

To get between the 2 furthest apart inhabited points on mainland Britain between sunrise on the longest day of 2013 and sunrise of the following day, on motorbikes that have cost no more than £300 to buy and prepare, and without breaking any laws. The challenge is all about endurance - both man and machine – and strength of character, NOT speed. Sunrise at John o'Groats on the 21st June 2013 is at 04.04 hrs, Sunrise at Lands End on the 22nd June 2013 is at 04.51 hrs.

Participants had 24hrs and 47 minutes to complete the challenge...
